Sauber and Honda cancel planned F1 partnership

Sauber's planned Formula One partnership with troubled Japanese engine maker Honda from next season has been canceled, both parties announced at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Thursday. Honda, who risk having no team to supply next season if McLaren also decide to end their rocky relationship, said in a separate statement that its "strong commitment" to Formula One remained unchanged. "However, this decision has been made for strategic reasons, and with the best intent for the future of the Sauber F1 Team in mind," added the Frenchman, who was boss of the Renault team until January. McLaren are also considering their options and the Sauber deal would have given Honda a continued presence in the sport, at worst, and two teams to work with on improving the power unit at best. "We had built a good relationship with Sauber, and had been looking forward to entering the 2018 F1 season together," said Masashi Yamamoto, general manager of Honda's Motor ...

Sport: RB Leipzig owner Mateschitz reveals €75m bid for Liverpool target Keita

RB Leipzig owner Dietrich Mateschitz has revealed the club have received a €75m (£66.3m) offer for Liverpool target Naby Keita. The highly-rated midfielder is a top target for Jurgen Klopp's side this summer, with an opening offer of €65m (£57m) having been rejected. However, Mateschitz has since revealed a higher bid has been tabled for Keita, though he has reiterated the club do not want to sell their prized asset. Speaking to German publication Bild, Mateschitz said: "Lately we got a €75m offer for Naby Keita. No way! He has a contract and he will accomplish it. “To sell him would not only be a proof of distrust to our fans but also the wrong sign for our players like Timo Werner, who is in demand too."

Mbappe trails him with a price tag of £55m (€61.7m). Borussia Dortmund youngster Ousmane Dembele, 20, is third in the list with a worth of €60.9m – last year it was €14m – while Leroy Sane (€51.1m) and Marco Asensio (€42.7m) make up the top five. Sport: Szczesny signs with Juventus from Arsenal for €12.2m

Juventus have completed the signing of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny from Arsenal for an initial fee of €12.2million. The value of Szczesny's transfer could eventually rise to €15.3m depending on certain conditions being met over the course of his contract. He joined Arsenal from Legia Warsaw as a youngster and went on to make 181 appearances in all competitions before the arrivals of David Ospina and Petr Cech left him looking elsewhere for first-team opportunities. Szczesny's path to the starting XI at Juve is likely to be blocked by an all-time great, with Gianluigi Buffon preparing for a career swansong in 2017-18. Juventus lost a second Champions League final in three seasons against Real Madrid in Cardiff last month and Szczesny wants to help get a side so dominant at home during the present era over that hurdle.

Pensioners in Osun State under the aegis of Forum of 2011/2012 Pensioners on Wednesday staged a fresh protest to demand payment of the arrears of their pensions and gratuities. This fresh protest came just a day after Governor Rauf Aregbesola confirmed that he had received N6.314bn as the second tranche of the Paris Club loan refund. The Chairman of the forum, Mr Omoniyi Ilesanmi, who led the protest said the governor should use the money to pay the entitlements of pensioners. He said the pensioners were being owed one-year full pension arrears and gratuities from 2008 to 2012. The pensioners stormed the State Civil Service Secretariat at Abere and blocked part of the road but they allowed workers and others to go in and out of the place. Armed with placards with various inscriptions the retired workers sang anti-government songs and rained abuses on the governor.

Migrant crisis: EU to curb rubber boat sales to Libya.

EU foreign ministers have agreed to restrict exports of inflatable boats and outboard motors to Libya in a drive to curb the smuggling of migrants. The restrictions will not apply to legitimate Libyan businesses, such as fishing crews, an EU statement said. It is not clear how the EU will check that such exports do not end up in the wrong hands in the lawless country. Meanwhile Luxembourg has warned that EU funds may be helping to drive migrants into Libyan "concentration camps". Many migrants exploited by people-smuggling gangs in Libya have suffered brutality, including sexual abuse. The country is plagued by violence and lawlessness. More than 88,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean to Italy so far this year, and more than a quarter of them arrived in June alone.

Having come close to departing Anfield several times over the past few transfer windows, Lucas has finally found a fresh challenge to accept. He was recruited as a replacement for Lucas Biglia, who traded Lazio for AC Milan in a deal worth an initial £15m.

SPORT: *Hart joins West Ham on loan from Man City

West Ham have completed the loan of Joe Hart from Manchester City with an option to buy. The 30-year-old has two years left on his deal at the Etihad Stadium, but will be able to join the Hammers on a permanent deal at the end of 2017-18 for around £15 million, having been told by Pep Guardiola to find a new club. "I've obviously left Manchester City on loan this season, but the club as a whole, especially the supporters, have always been fantastic to me," Hart told West Ham TV. "I'd never change how I feel about that club, as it'll always be a very special club to me." After six seasons as City's first-choice goalkeeper, Hart was sent to Torino last term following Guardiola's arrival, making 36 appearances in Serie A. Upon his arrival in London, Hart will link up with former City team-mate Pablo Zabaleta after the Hammers signed the right-back on a free transfer earlier this summer.

*Juventus pull out of deal for Schick

Juventus have confirmed they will no longer be signing Sampdoria striker Patrik Schick amid reports he failed a medical. The two clubs had agreed a fee of €25 million for the 21-year-old, but the Bianconeri will now turn their attention elsewhere for attacking talent. Juve confirmed the decision with a short statement on Twitter which read: "Juventus and @sampdoria_en confirm that they have agreed not to finalise the transfer of Patrik Schick." Reports have claimed that a discrepancy in Schick's medical led to him having to undergo more tests, but neither club has yet confirmed the reason behind the breakdown. Despite this, Juve continue to be active in the transfer market, with Douglas Costa having joined on loan from Bayern Munich last week.

*Antonio Conte signs new two-year contract at Chelsea

Antonio Conte has signed a new two-year contract at Chelsea, the Premier League champions have confirmed. The new contract is an improvement upon the terms of the three-year deal the 47-year-old agreed when he joined Chelsea, meaning he is still tied to the Stamford Bridge club until the end of 2018-19. Conte told Chelsea's official website: "I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Chelsea. We worked extremely hard in our first year to achieve something amazing, which I am very proud of. Now we must work even harder to stay at the top. Conte has bolstered his squad with the arrival Germany defender Antonio Rudiger from Roma and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, although his decision to freeze out striker Diego Costa and the failure to secure an attacking replacement ...

*Mourinho wants 15 more years at United

Jose Mourinho would like to remain Manchester United manager for another 15 years, but believes emulating Alex Ferguson is impossible. The Portuguese tactician arrived at Old Trafford last season and led United to three trophies – the Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield – in his first campaign. Mourinho, 54, is prepared for 15 more years at the helm at United, but accepts success is a must. "I am ready for this. I am ready for the next 15, I would say. Here? Yes, why not?" he told ESPN FC. "I have to admit that it is very difficult because of the pressure around our jobs, everybody putting pressure on managers and things that people say – that we have to win, but in reality only one can win and every year it is getting more difficult. "But what I try to do in the club is show that my work goes further than the football results, that it goes to areas that people don't think of as a manager's job. In my vision, my job is much more than wha...

The Lagos State government has said it is committed to the relocation of Computer Village from Ikeja and denied approving the construction of an ICT mall in its place. "This information is false, Lagos State Government did not issue any permit to him because his plans are not in sync with the State Government's regeneration plan so it is not possible for him to obtain approval from the appropriate authorities," Anifowoshe said.

If Nigeria Break Up, Abuja Will Be A Separate Country’- Sambo Says

The Indigenous people of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have warned that should the country eventually break up, they will seek an independent status. They said they would ask the United Nations to govern the 8,000sq kilometres territory through a transitional arrangement until it can become an autonomous city-state with socio-political and economic sovereignty. They however, declared their support for a united Nigeria based on proper devolution of governmental powers rather than dismemberment of the nation as canvassed by separatist groups. Their resolution was contained in a statement by the President of the Original Inhabitants Development Association of Abuja, OIDA, Pastor Danladi Jeji, and signed by the Media Adviser, Sumner Shagari Sambo. According to OIDA, “We have watched with dismay as federal authorities and security agencies look on as separatist and expulsionist groups have a field day calling for dismemberment of Nigeria or giving quit no...
