Kogi ASUU operated like opposition party –Gov Bello

The Kogi State Governor, Yahya Bello, has said that he decided to proscribe the state university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities because the association had turned itself into an opposition political party. He said it was apparent that some forces who he did not name were using the union members against his government. Bello spoke with State House correspondents on Wednesday night after attending a meeting of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The governor said his administration inherited what he described as “a comatose university” and needed to carry out “certain surgical operations” in order to re-position the education sector in the state.
